THESE ARE OUR TOP 6 TIPS TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR VISIT TO IDEAL OSTEOPATHY:

1. TURN UP ON TIME

  • We really want to maximise your time on the treatment table. When you run late it puts additional pressure on the therapist to try and work through your problem in that shorter amount of time. Unfortunately we often cannot make up the time as we usually have another patient booked in after you.

  • We do however sometimes run late on our own accord. Please be patient with us as this may be due to complex patients or initial treatments. When this is the case we will ALWAYS make sure you get the designated time for your appointment.

2. TRY AND KEEP YOUR AREA OF COMPLAINT TO ONE AREA

  • We would love to fix everything in one go but unfortunately it is not always as simple as it sounds. Your allocated treatment time is designed to allow for history taking, assessment and treatment of ONE complaint. Osteopaths are holistic practitioners and look at the whole body so we will often treat more than just the area i.e. neck pain will often be accompanied by shoulder and upper back treatment as well as even pelvic assessment.

  • If you ask for your neck, lower back, knee and big toe to be looked at, we can do it, but we can only spend a short amount of time at each area so the effectiveness of the treatment is lost. For example if we look at 3 areas, we are only doing a third of the job at each area which is going to limit the treatment benefits.

  • Try sticking to one complaint for each appointment so that we can achieve the best treatment result. Chances are you will get more than that area treated anyway!

3. TIME IS TICKING...

  • We love having a chat! We love hearing your stories! Surprisingly, we can multitask and chat while we treat you. Remember however that the clock is ticking and the quicker you are on the bench, the more we can do.

  • Get changed as quickly as you can. We often advise you to open the door when you are ready so we can get underway.

4. TRY AND REFRAIN FROM GIVING TOO MUCH INFORMATION

  • We are trained to ask all the questions we need for your injury or pain.

  • We often get bombarded with too much information which can be unnecessary and take up your time on the table. Of course if you think it is important for us to know, please do tell us.

  • Try and let the practitioner guide you through their questioning which is designed to get the most relevant information out of you and give them the best clinical details regarding your complaint.

5. WEAR APPROPRIATE ATTIRE FOR YOUR TREATMENT

  • It is important for us to visually assess your posture and how your body is functionally moving.

  • We may also need to access these areas for soft tissue massage, dry needling or other hands on techniques.

  • Think about the area of your complaint and decide whether your practitioner will be able to access it if required. For example, it is very hard to assess and treat a knee when the patient is wearing tight jeans. It would be better to wear the gown, or bring some comfortable shorts or tights.

6. DON'T FORGET YOUR PRIVATE HEALTH FUND CARD

  • We have a HICAPS terminal here for you to claim through your private health fund straight away. That way you are only out of pocket for the gap and you need not worry about making a claim later.
